Candidiasis - Yeast Infection
BACKGROUND
Jennifer, a 40 year old mother of three, complained of extreme fatigue, insomnia, bloating, gas, weight gain and irritability. She states that she has experienced these symptoms for the past three years on and off. The symptoms are worse when she eats breads or starchy foods.
OTHER SYMPTOMS
Muscle aches and pains, lightheadedness, shakiness with missed meals, painful menses, headaches, and inability to concentrate (foggy brain).
LIFESTYLE
Jennifer’s diet is full of refined carbohydrates and processed foods. She exercises twice a week. She does not take nutritional supplementation.
FINDINGS
Candida Albicans sensitivity, wheat intolerance, nutritional deficiencies, postural misalignments.
- Lifestyle: Avoidance of wheat and refined foods; a special anti-candida diet for three weeks; and aerobic exercise to encourage a fat-burning metabolism.
RESULTS
After two weeks, all of Jennifer’s symptoms were gone. They begin to return slightly when she eats processed foods, especially refined white flour on a regular basis (more than 3 times per week).
COMMENTS
Many books emphasize the importance of strictly adhering to an anti-candida diet for many months. This is usually not necessary when the rest of components are addressed at the same time. Combination therapies, like the ones described above, generally have terrific results with longstanding digestive issues such as candida. Whereas diet alone may take a very long time.
