BACKGROUND
Christina, a 47 year old flight attendant, complained of chronic sleep problems. She states that she was able to fall asleep but often awoke three or four times a night for 30 minutes or more per time. This pattern was present for over three years.
OTHER SYMPTOMS
Fatigue, constipation, headaches (Advil weekly)
LIFESTYLE
Continuous travel for work, exercise two times a week, alcohol most nights, and a mixed diet of healthy foods and many processed foods.
FINDINGS
A full nutritional evaluation revealed multiple deficiencies in many categories. Most, required specific nutrients to fix (multiple vitamins or mineral would not do). Christina's total score on her Health Assessment was an 108 out of 560 (average is a 48).
TREATMENT
- Nutritional: L-Tryptophan, Riboflavin, DHA, Biogest, Zinc, Magnesium, P-5-P (B6)
- Lifestyle: Increased walking and stretching. Modified diet with greatly reduced refined carbohydrates.
RESULTS
Christina was seen for a nine visits for her main complaint. She slept better the first night after the treatment than she had in many months. However, it was not until five weeks later and several adjustments with her supplements that things finally stabilized and sleep was consistent.
COMMENTS
Sleep problems can be the result of many many factors. Insomnia resulting from emotional stress is perhaps the hardest form to correct. Thankfully, Christina's insomnia was a result of several fixable nutritional imbalances.
