Rheumatoid Arthritis
BACKGROUND
Elena, a twenty nine year old female mother of two, was suffering from severe joint pain. For the past seven she had been on six different and very potent anti-inflammatory medications including prednisone and remicade infusions. She was told by her MD that she needed to be weaned off of these medications for fear that she would end up with kidney disease. Her husband brought her into the office in a state of desperation.

LIFESTYLE
Elena ate the traditional foods from her home of Mexico. Her overall diet included many processed and "quick" foods. She was twenty five pounds overweight and did not exercise.

OTHER SYMPTOMS
Occasional severe abdominal pain, PMS, difficulty sleeping, daily headaches.

FINDINGS
Strong corn allergy, basic nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, leaky gut syndrome and structural misalignments.

TREATMENT
Structural: Spinal and cranial adjustments.

Chemical: Basic nutrition regime including a multi-vitamin, fish oil, & digestive enzyme.

Lifestyle: Immediate cessation of any corn or corn products of any kind. Begin a basic diet of minimal processed foods and many fresh fruits and vegetables.

RESULTS
After two weeks Elena stated that she had begun feeling much better, that her digestive problems were much less and that she had not had any headaches. After one month, she stated that she had no pain in her wrists, knees or ankles. All other symptoms cleared as well. Elena's husband knew that she was getting better because her energy level began to rise rapidly. The result he said, was that now "she likes to argue with me and tell me what to do. (ella tiene gusto de discutir con mí)"

COMMENTS
For some, the most stressful and detrimental thing they can do is to eat what they have always eaten their entire lives. I have treated many patients who were diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, only to have it turn out to be a food allergy. This is understandable since most medical doctors have only the most basic training in nutrition and no training whatsoever in the clinical effects of diet. For them, foods, as a possible cause of human dysfunction, is not even a consideration. This problem is made harder to except when it is realized that thousands of children are misdiagnosed and mishandled every year because of ignorant pediatricians who have themselves been inflicted with an incurable disease I call: Pharmacosis.
